An early example of large evolutionary form with a cusped top, formed from addorsed scrolling foliate continuing as a trefoil in the field. The trefoil was a favorite Viking form. The cusped top heart is indicative of a transition from the naturalistic form which was used widely as well. Made by the open face mold technique and just over 1 1/8" height plus the suspension loop. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, and integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Surface worn from use (1000 years ago!) and burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
