Description
Vikings evolved multiple fighting techniques depending on circumstances. The sword and axe served on the battlefield. When raiding, they employed brutal hand-to-hand techniques which included throat-slashing for which these small knives are particularly suited. They perhaps had mystical significance as well, as in these small knives, rather than the larger scramseaxes, with which Viking warriors were buried. This example is just under 3 1/2" (3.43") in total length with a " whittle tang" which was embedded in a one-piece wood, bone, or antler grip. Excavated and professionally conserved with Plexiglas display mount. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
