Early American style brass, or copper, decorative coal hog, this example is probably 1950/1960's vintage. The piece shows some flaws, and is selling in as is and as found condition. Specifically the bottom has a few small holes, probably added as a drainage port, and the finish shows cosmetic wear, normal and consistent with age. The item will still function well for kindling wood, newspapers or just as a decorative objet, but not for actual coal.
