  • Description:This is an attractive map showing the course of the Elbe river passing Hamburch (Hamburg) and into the Nordsee (North Sea). North is oriented towards the bottom of the map. The upper map shows the course of the Elbe from Gauisthacht (Geesthachct) in the east to Stade in the west. Hamburg and its many small islands are in the centre of the map. In the lower centre of the map is a yellow area with a dedication and on the left are two surveyors / cartographers. The lower maps shows the continuing Elbe course to its mouth on the North Sea. Inset is a view of Hamburg. Plenty of detail is offered regarding villages, roads, farms, forests, marshes, etc along the river filled with boats and ships. This map is from the Atlas Major.
