Title: Oil painting At the obelisk Oksana Ivanyuk Description: №Kalen 1629 The oil painting on Canvas titled "At the Obelisk" captures a vivid, emotionally resonant moment of urban life nestled in the golden hues of autumn. At first glance, the composition strikes with its vertical rhythm—towering trees and the distant obelisk rise skyward, drawing the eye up and through the canvas. But within this structure, The painting offers an abundance of warmth, life, and a sense of shared human experience. A canopy of richly painted autumn trees dominates the composition, their foliage bursting in a radiant spectrum of yellows, ochres, burnt siennas, and deep purples. The artist uses thick, impasto brushstrokes to give the trees texture and depth, transforming them into more than background elements—they become vibrant characters in their own right. The palette is rich, almost decadent, invoking the full glory of fall. Despite the abstraction, the suggestion of different tree species—perhaps poplars and maples—can be felt through their distinct forms and color gradations. Behind this tapestry of trees, the obelisk stands tall and serene, carved out of pale tones of ivory and soft lavender. Its form is slightly abstracted, yet unmistakable—a silent sentinel watching over the park. Bathed in sunlight, it rises like a monument to history, memory, or perhaps a collective past. The surrounding buildings, rendered in muted stone tones and gentle shadows, reinforce a sense of civic pride and timeless architecture. Their softened edges contrast beautifully with the energetic brushwork of the foreground trees. Beneath the golden canopy, at ground level, life stirs. A group of people moves through the park, each figure captured in just a few deft strokes, yet full of character. There is a sense of casual movement—some walking together, others perhaps pausing in conversation or simply enjoying the day. One figure appears to be a child with a red garment, lending a flash of brightness and innocence to the scene. The clothing suggests late autumn—perhaps a time near remembrance, change, or reflection. The path they walk on is a muted stretch of gray and blue, interrupted with dabs of green and soft pinks, hinting at both wear and charm. The shadows cast across the pavement stretch and blend into the scene with painterly grace. There is no harsh contrast here; everything is suffused with a warm haze, a glowing reminiscence that elevates the mundane to the poetic.
