Description

Cambridgeshire, England, 9th-11th century AD. Gilt bronze, size 7 3/4. 5.4mm width band with well rounded face. Made with a core filling the inside which distributed the flowing metal and allowed for slower cooling. The core was then laboriously removed by hand and the inside of the ring was polished. Remnants of the core are evident inside the ring. Surface textured overall from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom’s sword.
