ABOUT THE ARTIST: Balakay Volodymyr Leonidovich – was born on 24th of August 1928 in Styla village, Donetsk region. He studied at Smirnov-Lastochkin Kyiv Art School and Tbilisi Academy of Arts. Mentors: Lyakhovich E., Toidze I., and Shukhaeva V. Painter, poet, and excellent colorist. Lived and worked in Donetsk. Since 1958 he participated in all-Union, republican, and regional exhibitions. Laureate of the republican exhibition of landscape "AI. Kuinji Memorial" in 1973 in Mariupol. Since 2008, Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Main works: «The Girl Near the tree» (1955), «Kolkhoz Field» (1957), «My Land» (1961), «Confessions» (1999), «Selected Works» (2000), «Poems» (2002). His works were exhibited in England at the BONHAMS auction in 1996 and in Germany, Greece, and Japan. The paintings are represented in Odesa, Donetsk, and Mariupol art museums. On the maternal line, he is the great-grandson of the artist Kyriak Kostandi. Volodymyr Leonidovich died on 13th of November 2009 in Donetsk.
