Description
Mid Century Bitossi White Vase Ceramic Pottery Italy
These vases look great on their own or as part of a collection. The white color highlights the impressed decor that is a key design element to Bitossi ceramics from the 1960s
The Bitossi family has been documented in the territory of Montelupo Fiorentino since 1536.
In this place, with an ancient ceramic tradition, a few kilometers from the city of Florence, over the centuries the Bitossi have been kilns, sculptors and painters but above all they have dedicated themselves to ceramics, introducing an extraordinary stylistic and formal renewal in the first decades of the twentieth century . Heir to a long dynasty and tradition, Guido Bitossi founded the Guido Bitossi artistic majolica factory in 1921 , offering a production still linked to tradition and the classic styles of the past with refinement and study of the product. The evolution in the modern sense manifested itself as disruptive starting from the early fifties, under the artistic direction of Aldo Londi , a man of innate creative and aesthetic sense, attentive to changes in taste and the uniqueness of the Italian product. Londi joined Bitossi in 1946 and from that moment on he was the undisputed protagonist of the production style for more than fifty years, first as a painter, then as artistic director and finally as a tireless experimenter.
