Description
Gorgeous nicely executed impressionist painting on canvas of a seaside beach scene with figures, signed at the lower right by listed Polish artist Tadeusz Roman (1906-1983).
Titled "Plaza" on back. Circa Late 1960's early 1970's.
This 27" by 31" painting uses a hazy subdued palette with splashes of bright color in the foreground. Classic impressionist and post-impressionist style is in evidence and reminiscent of William Merritt Chase or Philip Wilson Steer.
It has been suggested that Tadeusz Roman's work is grossly underrated on the world market, and particularly in the United States. He is well known and his works sell well in his homeland of Poland and in Europe, but his work has not been widely recognized by the western world thus far.
Condition is very good with the exception of a bit of discoloration and a hairline crack in paint (mid left) due to age.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Unframed, the canvas has some minor fraying on the bottom beyond where it has been stapled. Hairline crack in paint left center and some discoloration. Otherwise overall beautiful and very good condition.
