Jean-Pierre Aumont handwritten and signed note, penned in French with repeated “Merde” (a theatrical expression for “good luck”), and warmly signed alongside “Jean-Pierre et” [with another name]. Accompanied by an urgent telegram addressed to pianist Youra Guller at the Carlton in Cannes, dated September 16, from Marseille, reading: “Préviens pour prendre même train que toi tendrement = Jean Pierre Aumont.” A charming pair of personal items reflecting Aumont’s wit and affectionate character.

Jean-Pierre Aumont (1911–2001) was a French stage and film actor who became internationally known for his roles in French cinema as well as in Hollywood productions during World War II and beyond. He also served with distinction in the Free French Forces, earning military honors. Aumont’s career spanned decades on both stage and screen, remembered for his charisma, versatility, and contributions to French and American performing arts.
