Rising to power after the 1985 assassination of Paul Castellano, Gotti became a media sensation for his flamboyant public image and repeated acquittals in high-profile trials. His reign ended in 1992 when he was convicted on multiple federal charges, including murder and racketeering, and sentenced to life imprisonment, where he remained until his death.
