Details:
John Gotti original early police mug shot photograph, measuring approximately 4.25 × 3.375 inches, depicting the notorious Gambino crime family boss in classic profile and frontal views with height chart visible in the background. The image bears an original embossed stamp at the lower left reading “Evidence – Original File – Not to Be Copied,” along with a handwritten file reference number on the verso.
This photograph originates from federal custody records and reflects the standardized mug shot format employed by the U.S. Marshals Service for internal identification and evidentiary files. Small-format working photographs of this type were never intended for public release, and authentic examples with intact embossed evidence stamps are seldom encountered on the open market.
Fine condition.
John Gotti (1940–2002), known as the “Teflon Don,” was the head of New York’s Gambino crime family and one of the most infamous organized crime figures of the late 20th century. Rising to power after the 1985 assassination of Paul Castellano, Gotti became a media sensation for his flamboyant public image and repeated acquittals in high-profile trials. His reign ended in 1992 when he was convicted on multiple federal charges, including murder and racketeering, and sentenced to life imprisonment, where he remained until his death.
