Jimmy Doolittle signed commemorative cover marking the 50th anniversary of the first blind flight, flown at Mitchel Field, Long Island, on September 24, 1929. The cover features a portrait illustration of Doolittle and is postmarked Hempstead, New York, September 24, 1979, with the cachet noting “The Cradle of Aviation.” Signed prominently in blue ink by Doolittle, this example is numbered 412 of 1,000 and issued as part of the Cradle of Aviation Museum Long Island Commemorative Series.

Jimmy Doolittle (1896–1993) was an American aviation pioneer, military leader, and Medal of Honor recipient. He is best known for leading the 1942 Doolittle Raid, the first U.S. air attack on Japan during World War II. Earlier in his career, Doolittle achieved several groundbreaking aviation milestones, including the first successful blind flight using only instruments. His contributions to both military aviation and aeronautical science made him one of the most influential aviators of the 20th century.
