Theodore “Dutch” Van Kirk, World War II U.S. Army Air Forces officer, autographed First Day of Issue Canadian cover commemorating World War II (1939–1945), issued November 10, 1989. The cover features Canadian wartime imagery and postage honoring the Allied convoy system, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue.

Theodore Van Kirk (1921–2014) served as the navigator aboard the B-29 Enola Gay during the atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. As a member of the 509th Composite Group, Van Kirk played a critical role in navigating the aircraft to its target and return route. He later pursued a career in chemical engineering and remained active in speaking engagements and historical discussions about the mission and its place in world history. Van Kirk was the last surviving member of the Enola Gay flight crew.
