Paul Tibbets autographed Smithsonian Institution “Milestones of Flight” commemorative cover, honoring the 50th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s historic 1927 solo transatlantic flight in the Spirit of St. Louis. Postmarked May 20, 1977, at Roosevelt Field Station, New York, the site of Lindbergh’s original takeoff. A fitting aviation tribute uniting two of history’s most influential pilots.

Brigadier General Paul W. Tibbets (1915–2007) was a U.S. Air Force pilot best known for commanding and piloting the B-29 Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. A decorated aviator, Tibbets later became a key figure in postwar military aviation and nuclear readiness programs.
