Gallagher adds “Nagasaki Aug. 9, 1945,” referencing the atomic bombing mission he served on, while Sweeney—commander of the Bockscar—adds his own bold signature beneath the printed Truman facsimile autograph. A powerful convergence of history linking Truman’s leadership with those who carried out his wartime orders.
