Fred J. Olivi (1916–2004) was a U.S. Army Air Forces officer who served during World War II as a combat pilot and co-pilot of Bockscar, the B-29 Superfortress that delivered the atomic bomb over Nagasaki. On August 9, 1945, Olivi flew alongside Major Charles Sweeney during one of the most consequential missions in modern military history. Following the war, Olivi remained active in aviation-related and veterans’ organizations, frequently participating in commemorative events and historical discussions surrounding the atomic missions. His firsthand role places him among a small and historically significant group of airmen directly involved in the closing actions of World War II and the dawn of the nuclear age.
