The cover features wartime imagery and Canadian postage, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue. Fred Olivi signed the cover with a handwritten inscription identifying his role as copilot aboard Bockscar during the Nagasaki atomic bomb mission of August 9, 1945.

Fred J. Olivi (1916–2005) was a United States Army Air Forces officer who served as copilot of the B-29 Bockscar on the Nagasaki atomic bomb mission, the second atomic strike of World War II. Olivi remained closely associated with public history and education related to the atomic missions.
