Charles McKnight autographed First Day of Issue Canadian cover commemorating World War II (1939–1945), issued November 10, 1989. The cover features Canadian wartime imagery and postage honoring the establishment of the Allied convoy system, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue. McKnight has added a handwritten inscription reading “Col. Charles McKnight – a/c ‘Top Secret’”, referencing his service aboard classified aircraft during the war.

Charles McKnight (1919–2001) served as the aircraft commander of Big Stink, one of the B-29 bombers assigned to the 509th Composite Group—the elite unit tasked with carrying out the atomic bombing missions during World War II. Big Stink flew a support role during the Nagasaki mission on August 9, 1945, assigned to photograph and document the bombing’s aftermath.
