George Marquardt, World War II U.S. Army Air Forces serviceman, autographed Japanese invasion currency note issued for use in occupied territories during the Pacific Theater of World War II.
Fine condition.
George R. Marquardt (1912–1987) was the airplane commander of Necessary Evil, one of the three B-29s that accompanied the Enola Gay during the Hiroshima atomic bombing mission on August 6, 1945. His aircraft was responsible for photographic documentation and scientific observation of the detonation. The mission would become one of the most consequential moments in 20th-century history.
