Andrew Mellon autographed typed letter (TLS), dated March 4, 1922, on official “The Secretary of the Treasury, Washington” letterhead, addressed to Mr. John A. Stewart of the Cosmos Club, Washington, D.C. In this concise but formal note, Mellon acknowledges receipt of Stewart’s prior correspondence and invites him to meet upon his arrival in Washington, advising that he telephone the Treasury Department to arrange a definite appointment. The letter is signed at the conclusion in ink by Mellon.

Andrew Mellon (1855–1937) was one of the most influential American financiers and statesmen of the early 20th century. Serving as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1921 to 1932 under Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover, Mellon played a central role in shaping federal tax policy, government finance, and economic strategy during the post–World War I era. Beyond politics, he was a major philanthropist and art patron, founding the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
