Edmund J. Davis autographed handwritten letter signed, penned on official “Executive Office, State of Texas” stationery in Austin and dated February 19, 1870, addressed to Hon. Thos. J. Durant in Washington, D.C. In this substantive political letter, Davis discusses a telegram requesting the power of attorney, references prior correspondence and documents sent on the 12th, and issues a firm warning regarding Judge Paschal, instructing that he be forbidden from acting for the State and that all persons be barred from making payments to him. Davis closes with a sharply worded assessment, characterizing Paschal’s actions as “very extraordinary conduct.”
