Fred Haise autographed commemorative NASA cover postmarked June 4, 1977, from Edwards Air Force Base, California, celebrating the Gulfstream II Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA) used for approach and landing simulations. The cover, issued by the NASA Flight Research Center, features a printed illustration of the Gulfstream II alongside a sepia-tone photograph of Haise in flight gear, paired with a 13¢ U.S. Bicentennial Flag stamp. The text notes “Practice Shuttle Landing Approaches – Crew: Astronaut Fred Haise, Al Manson.” Haise has signed boldly in black ink across his portrait. A fine collectible linking Haise’s Apollo-era experience to his later work developing and testing the Space Shuttle’s flight systems.

Fred Haise (b. 1933): Fred W. Haise Jr. is a former NASA astronaut, test pilot, and engineer best known as the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 13. His composure and technical skill were critical in safely returning the crew after the mission’s in-flight explosion. Haise later served as backup commander for Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 and was deeply involved in the Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests using the Enterprise.
