Thomas A. Edison (1847–1931) was one of the most influential inventors and industrialists in American history, holding over 1,000 patents and founding or co-founding numerous companies that helped shape modern technology and infrastructure. Edison established the Edison Portland Cement Company in 1899 with the aim of revolutionizing cement production through new industrial processes. Although the venture ultimately proved commercially challenging, it remains a fascinating example of Edison’s relentless experimentation beyond electricity and communications.
