
Details:
Abraham Lincoln and William H. Seward authentic hair clippings, presented in a custom matted historical display measuring approximately 14 x 11 inches. The display includes reproductions of period photographic images of Lincoln, Seward, and John Wilkes Booth, along with two encapsulated hair samples attributed to Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William H. Seward.
The hair specimens originate from the renowned Caroline R. Wright collection. Wright, the wife of Indiana Governor Joseph A. Wright, was a close associate of the Lincolns and collected hair relics from major political figures of the mid-19th century. These hair clippings were part of the Forbes Collection and were sold at Christie’s, New York, October 19, 2002 (Forbes Sale Part II, Lot 121).
Included with this display is:
• A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Cary J. Delery of The Historical Shop, which produced the presentation
• A copy of the original Christie’s auction catalog description documenting the provenance and chain of custody
The display itself shows light edge wear to the matting and foam board consistent with prior framing.
