Hugh Ferguson, Manhattan Project officer, signed First Day of Issue Canadian cover commemorating World War II (1939–1945), issued November 10, 1989. The cover features wartime imagery and Canadian postage, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue.

Hugh D. Ferguson Jr. (1917–1992) was a United States Army Air Forces officer who served with the Manhattan Project during World War II. He flew aboard The Great Artiste, the instrumentation aircraft accompanying the Hiroshima atomic bomb mission on August 6, 1945, where he was responsible for collecting blast and scientific data. Ferguson later continued his military career and remained associated with historical accounts of the atomic missions.
