Thomas Ferebee, bombardier of the B-29 Enola Gay, signed commemorative illustrated cover marking the First Use of the Atomic Bomb, August 6, 1945, issued for the 40th Anniversary in 1985. The cover depicts the Enola Gay in flight from Tinian to Hiroshima and bears symbolic postmarks from Enola, Arkansas (July 16, 1985) and Gay, West Virginia (August 6, 1985) with period U.S. postage.

Thomas Ferebee (1918–2000) was a United States Army Air Forces officer who served as the bombardier aboard the Enola Gay during World War II. He was responsible for releasing the atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. Following his military service, Ferebee pursued a civilian career and later reflected publicly on the historical significance of the mission.
