George Caron (1919–1995) was a U.S. Army Air Forces airman who served during World War II as part of America’s strategic bombing campaign. He is best known as the tail gunner aboard the B-29 Enola Gay on August 6, 1945, during the atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima, Japan. Following the war, Caron continued his military service before later becoming involved in veteran organizations and public remembrance efforts related to World War II aviation and the atomic era. His firsthand role in one of the most consequential missions in history places him among the most historically significant aircrew members of the Second World War.
