Frederick Ashworth, Manhattan Project officer, signed First Day of Issue Canadian cover commemorating World War II (1939–1945), issued November 10, 1989. The cover features period wartime imagery and Canadian postage, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue. Autographed by Frederick Ashworth, with a handwritten inscription identifying his role as U.S. Navy commander and “Weaponer” aboard Bockscar during the Nagasaki atomic bomb mission, dated August 9, 1945.

Frederick L. Ashworth (1912–2005) was a U.S. Navy officer and the weaponeer aboard Bock’s Car during the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. Serving as the mission’s ordnance specialist, he oversaw the arming and deployment of the “Fat Man” bomb, a defining event that led to Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II.
