Charles Albury, World War II veteran, autographed First Day of Issue Canadian cover commemorating World War II (1939–1945), issued November 10, 1989. The cover features Canadian wartime imagery and postage honoring the establishment of the Allied convoy system, postmarked Ottawa, Ontario, on the official day of issue. Albury has added a handwritten inscription identifying himself as a B-29 pilot and noting Nagasaki, August 9, 1945.

Charles W. “Chuck” Albury (1917–2008) was a United States Army Air Forces officer who served as a B-29 pilot with the elite 509th Composite Group during World War II. He piloted Bockscar on the August 9, 1945 mission to Nagasaki, the second atomic strike of the war, after flying as a backup pilot on the Hiroshima mission three days earlier. Albury’s service placed him at the center of one of the most consequential moments in modern military history. After the war, he remained active in veteran and historical commemorations related to the atomic missions.
