Fine condition, with expected age toning, folds, edge wear. The wax seal shows partial loss.
Thomas William Galpin was appointed United States Consul to Belfast by President Andrew Jackson, becoming the first U.S. civilian to hold the American consular post in that city. His tenure reflects the early expansion of American diplomatic and commercial interests abroad, particularly in Ireland, where U.S. trade, emigration, and maritime concerns were rapidly increasing in the decades preceding the Great Famine.
