William H. Rehnquist (1924–2005) served on the United States Supreme Court for more than three decades, first as Associate Justice from 1972 to 1986 and then as Chief Justice from 1986 until his death. Appointed by President Richard Nixon, Rehnquist became one of the most influential conservative voices on the Court. As Chief Justice, he presided over major constitutional cases and oversaw the Court during a period of significant legal and political change. His tenure helped shape modern interpretations of federalism and the balance of governmental power.
