Gorée is known as the location of the House of Slaves (Maison des esclaves), built by an Afro-French Métis family about 1780–1784. After the French gained control in 1677, the island remained continuously French until 1960. by Mallet, Allain Manesson. Published 1683. Original 17th century copperplate map.
