Description
Africa'. This fascinating map contains an extraordinary amount of detail - much of it hypothesised - given the lack of European knowledge of the African interior at the time of publication (the source of the Nile was not discovered until 1858). The phantom St Matthew Island is shown south of Liberia. The Niger river is shown conflated with the Senegal river, flowing west to the sea at Cape Verde. A number of Brazilian islands are shown substantially to the east of their actual locations by Moll, Herman. Published 1701. Antique copperplate map. Size 30 x 20 cm | 11.5 x 7.5 inches. Condition: Good; suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. There are further maps printed on the reverse side.
