A single earthenware Toby Jug depicting a seated figure. The figure is decorated with a polychrome lead-glaze palette, featuring cobalt blue for the coat, iron oxide yellow and orange for the breeches and highlights, and manganese brown for the hair and tricorn hat. The tricorn hat forms the spout of the jug. The seated man holds a smaller white jug decorated with blue and orange polka dots. The handle is applied to the back. The figure rests on an octagonal base mottled with blue and yellow glaze splashes. No impressed or painted maker's marks are discernible on the base. This Toby Jug exhibits characteristics consistent with late 18th or early 19th century English earthenware production.
