One of the best and most important works by the Latin poet and Dijon jurist close to the Protestants, Jean Girard (1518-1586).
The collection includes 500 epigrams in Latin verse, divided into five centuries.
Each epigram is addressed to one of the five Centurions of Auxonne.
The first, to Claude Grosteste, the author's brother-in-law, first centurion ;
the second to the second centurion, and so on.
Most of the epigrams that make up this collection are addressed to members of his family, and to important figures in Burgundy, such as councilors and lawyers of Dijon, notable inhabitants of Dole, and in particular of Auxonne, of which Girard was mayor for a long time.
