TANVI THAKUR (1996) was born in Ajmer, India, and raised in the bustling city of Bengaluru, where she first discovered art as a child, sketching on a chalkboard her mother hung on their balcony. Shaped early by weekly boarding-school art classes and a teacher who trained her hand in brushwork and watercolor, Thakur came to see drawing and painting as a language for emotions that words couldn't hold. In 2014, she moved alone to New York City to pursue the dream her mother championed, earning a BFA from Parsons School of Design in 2018. After a brief detour into marketing, she returned to painting with renewed urgency during the isolation of the COVID era, building a makeshift studio at home and working late into the night, finding steadiness through repetition. Over time, she developed a signature visual rhythm: dense fields of patterns and motifs, especially dots, layered until the surface feels charged and alive. Since returning to the U.S., she has continued to develop her practice, exhibiting locally and contributing work annually to a Rochester charity showcase.
