Description
It measures about 18.5 inches by 23.5/or/29 inches (depending on whether you include the handles in the measurement. It weighs a little over 8 pounds.
I find the name of the maker on the back,. "Rogers Smith
& Co., New Haven, Conn.", but no numbers.
There is a wire on the back of it from the handle on one side to the other. It had apparently been hung on the wall as decor.
There is a picture of some buildings on each side (front) of the tray.
I have seen a lot of these trays, and a few of these very big ones, but never before one with a picture of buildings like this one has. It also has nice floral decor.
Because someone had not been using it, but just displaying it and because I had never seen another quite like it, I got to wondering how old it was. So I looked on the internet to check it out. Not a lot of information, but enough for my purposes. This company did business from various locations, but their New Haven location was only from 1862 - 1877, so I guess that means this tray dates back to the mid 1800s.
AI is learning to remove background from pictures. Nice. But it is still learning and does not always do a perfect job. Therefore, please excuse when the edges of things do not look very nice. They really are quite nice. I notice on these the handles were not very well handled, but AI won't take direction from me, so I guess I just have to be satisfied with it.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Some scratches. It has been used. But they are nothing any other used tray would have. You might like to keep in mind that it is very large and heavy. On top of that it would be loaded with something you are serving, so if you are a woman planning to use it yourself, you might want to think twice. I don't think you would want to make many trips with it. You need a husband, butler, son or someone who can handle it.
