Description
The Oil painting on Cardboard titled "Snow under the Sun" is a vibrant and expressive portrayal of a winter landscape kissed by the brilliance of sunlight. Crafted with thick, deliberate strokes of oil paint, this artwork evokes the serene yet dynamic atmosphere of a sunlit snowfield surrounded by autumnal foliage and evergreen trees. The artist's use of impasto technique creates a tactile, almost sculptural surface, where the texture of each brushstroke enhances the feeling of depth and immediacy. In the foreground, layers of snow unfold in hues of white, lavender, cream, and pale blue, suggesting both the shadows cast by the low winter sun and the subtle variations in the snow's texture. The interplay between cool and warm tones brings a sense of movement and dimension to the snow-covered path, leading the viewer's gaze gently toward the middle ground. Here, the sun's rays have softened the snow, reflecting a soft buttery yellow and delicate lilac that hints at the slow but inevitable transformation from winter to spring. The middle of the composition is punctuated by a dense cluster of trees, rendered in a brilliant array of colors. From deep greens and dark purples to bursts of crimson, orange, and magenta, these trees glow with the fire of late autumn, resisting the dominance of winter. This palette choice conveys the warmth of sunlight filtering through their branches, illuminating the leaves and creating a fiery contrast against the cool snow. It also lends emotional warmth to the scene, symbolizing resilience, life, and the eternal rhythm of seasonal change. To the left, a calm body of water-suggested by patches of muted violet and steel blue-gives balance and quietude to the composition, while the right side features the sun-drenched slope, pulling the entire scene into harmony. The background is defined by a vibrant sky, painted in luminous shades of cerulean blue, where the pure color and broad strokes capture the clarity and freshness of cold, crisp air. The contrast between the brilliant sky and the warm foliage below further intensifies the sensation of sunlight dancing on the snow.
