Description
The Oil painting on Canvas titled "Portrait of a confident girl" captures the profound emotional depth and enigmatic aura of a woman whose gaze speaks more eloquently than words ever could. At the very center of the composition is her piercing stare, rendered with remarkable intensity, pulling the viewer into a silent dialogue that feels deeply personal and almost confessional. Her eyes, large and dark, brim with unspoken emotions-memories, secrets, longings-that seem to extend beyond the frame, as though she is gazing not at the viewer but through them, into a realm of memory and experience where stories lie hidden. The artist employs a realist yet emotionally charged style, using the texture of oil paint to emphasize both the softness and the strength of her features. Her skin tones, blending warm earth colors with subtle highlights, reveal an intimacy and immediacy, as if the viewer is close enough to feel her presence. Her parted lips, painted in a vivid red, add a sensual undertone but also suggest vulnerability-perhaps the hesitation of words unsaid or confessions that remain locked within her. The slightly furrowed brows and the tilt of her head enhance the sense of tension between openness and mystery. One of the most striking elements of the composition is the rose delicately held between her fingers, positioned near her lips. The flower, painted in shades of red and pink, echoes the passion suggested by her lips, but also functions as a symbol of fragility, beauty, and fleeting time. It is as though the rose is an extension of her inner world-a token of love, a reminder of loss, or an emblem of an unspoken story that only she fully understands. The rose contrasts with her intense gaze, serving as both a visual balance and a symbolic companion, linking her outward beauty with the inner complexities of her emotional life. Her long, flowing hair frames her face, painted with earthy browns and golden highlights that suggest both strength and softness. The strands fall naturally, grounding the composition and adding a sense of realism while also acting as a symbolic veil that partially conceals and partially reveals her. Her pose, leaning slightly forward with one arm resting and the other holding the rose, suggests both confrontation and invitation-an openness to share, but only with those who are willing to look deeply enough to understand.

About the artists: Alexander Gukalov
After graduating from Lviv Polytechnic, he was engaged in scientific work. In his free time, he studied the works of Plato, the poetry of the ancient East, and religious works. At this time, resistance to the routine of life and utilitarian science arose in him; he became interested in man and his secrets. Alexander decided to end his engineering career and become a humanitarian. Since 1990, he began to write and publish philosophical poems. Later he decided to devote himself to painting, a passion for which began during his years of study at the Lviv Polytechnic with caricatures and caricatures of classmates and teachers.
Since 2017 he has been painting with oil paints. Alexander does not have a formal art education, but he is convinced that the craft and talent of an artist do not directly depend on professional education. The artist's works are characterized by completeness of composition and depth of meaning. He is not afraid to work with different themes, his paintings are true modern art that touches people. The artist's portfolio includes landscapes and views of his favorite cities, portraits of pop stars, politicians, athletes, relatives, and animals. "I draw a toga when I feel the need for it. Therefore, I cannot say that I work in some narrow direction. Rather, it is a call from the soul," the artist says about himself.
