Description
The Oil painting on Canvas titled "A boy's memory" captures a deeply intimate and contemplative moment, transforming the simplicity of everyday life into a meditation on stillness, innocence, and the quiet magic of early hours. The viewer is immediately drawn to the central figure of a child, delicately painted with a sense of tender realism and emotional resonance. The child, dressed in a dark coat with subtle golden accents and a knitted green hat adorned with tiny patterns, leans forward with hands gently pressed together, their posture suggesting a prayer, a wish, or simply the instinctive gesture of warming their breath in the crisp morning air. The expression on the child's face radiates concentration and tranquility, embodying a silence that speaks louder than words. The background reveals a scene set amidst the crisp clarity of autumn, with trees standing tall and bare branches mingling with remnants of golden leaves. Their outlines, painted with energetic brushstrokes of yellow and brown, create a sense of seasonal transition, as if the morning light has just broken through the canopy of trees, scattering fragments of warmth across the cool air. The soft blue-gray sky enhances the subdued yet luminous atmosphere, adding contrast to the child's figure, which emerges as the focal point of the composition. The surrounding architecture-hints of fences, geometric walls, and angular rooftops-suggests an urban or suburban setting, yet they are depicted abstractly, softened by the child's presence, as though the environment has receded into the background to emphasize the serenity of the moment. The use of color in this painting is both symbolic and atmospheric. The deep violet-black of the child's coat, contrasted by touches of golden yellow, conveys both warmth and solemnity, an anchor of solidity against the lighter, dreamlike palette of the background. The green hat stands out as a bright, almost playful accent, while the pale tones of the child's skin and hands glow softly, suggesting innocence and purity. The artist deliberately balances these tones to create harmony between the child and their surroundings, reinforcing the unity of human presence with the rhythm of nature. There is a strong sense of narrative embedded in the painting. The child, absorbed in their own inner world, represents the universal experience of quiet mornings where time seems to stand still.

About the artists: Alexander Gukalov
After graduating from Lviv Polytechnic, he was engaged in scientific work. In his free time, he studied the works of Plato, the poetry of the ancient East, and religious works. At this time, resistance to the routine of life and utilitarian science arose in him; he became interested in man and his secrets. Alexander decided to end his engineering career and become a humanitarian. Since 1990, he began to write and publish philosophical poems. Later he decided to devote himself to painting, a passion for which began during his years of study at the Lviv Polytechnic with caricatures and caricatures of classmates and teachers.
Since 2017 he has been painting with oil paints. Alexander does not have a formal art education, but he is convinced that the craft and talent of an artist do not directly depend on professional education. The artist's works are characterized by completeness of composition and depth of meaning. He is not afraid to work with different themes, his paintings are true modern art that touches people. The artist's portfolio includes landscapes and views of his favorite cities, portraits of pop stars, politicians, athletes, relatives, and animals. "I draw a toga when I feel the need for it. Therefore, I cannot say that I work in some narrow direction. Rather, it is a call from the soul," the artist says about himself.
