Canadian. 1900s-1910s. Lithographed tin. These novelty pieces advertised Treasure Line, a prominent brand of wood and coal-burning stoves and ranges that were manufactured by the D. Moore Company of Hamilton, Ontario. Their advertising pieces were vibrant and detailed and were distributed through retailers like Adams Furniture Co. (as shown on the items in this Lot). Both items served as "silent salesmen" always in the consumer's view when taken home. The tray, in this case, would have been used for organizing small, loose objects that were common in every home. While often known as change trays, in this case, once taken home as a premium, they would be known as pin trays, rather than trays that were used for monetary transactions. Shovel stamped "The Thos. Davidson Mfg. Co. Limited" on handle. Tray marked "MacDonald Mfg. Co. Limited Toronto." at upper left inner edge. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions.
