Canadian. 1940s. Lithographed tin. Zig Zag cigarette papers were named for the "Z" shape of the tobacco leaves, which were folded in two and interleaved (alternately placed between one another) as they went through the processing phase. This cigarette paper dispenser is the "blue cover" version. Zig Zag "blues", as they are known, are a thick, free-burning paper (as opposed to a slow-burning paper). Free burning meant that if you left your cigarette for a few minutes, poof, it would have gone up in smoke by the time you returned. Marked, "G.S.W.", lower edge. Authenticated by The Authentication Company (TAC #501438). All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions. From the late Marcel Gallays Collection.
