Vintage Sterling Onyx Lavalier Marcasite Lavalier Necklace, 16" Herringbone. It is marked .925 on the spring clasp and the chain and pendant have been tested and both test as .925. Weight of the necklace is appx. 18.35 gr. Age is post mid-century. Marcasite jewelry became popular in the 18th century and has had had several periods of popularity thereafter. I believe this is from appx. 1960's-1900's. The pendant is appx. 1.7/8" long and 1" wide. It has a marcasite tapered bail with a decorative wider accent over the main part of the pendant which is tiered and encrusted with marcasites. The center is an appx. 14.5mm by 10mm oval bezel-set balck onyx. The chain is 16" with most of it being a 2.5 mm thick herringbone link and the front having elongated oval links (three on each side) with a marcasite set in the center of each. This is not signed by the maker. It is in very good condition. All marcasites are present and original. Very well made. (W7922.2X7 SS7837 J LD 7/15/22).
