A Chinese Polychrome “Pineapple?? Lacquer Box

Description

Qing Dynasty(1644-1912); Of rectangular form, the box finely finished in rich boluo qi (????), or “pineapple lacquer,” characterized by its naturally mottled surface of mingling red, amber, and gold tones resembling rippled flames. The layers of colored lacquer have been skillfully polished to reveal a deep, lustrous texture, creating an organic pattern of remarkable depth and warmth. The interior and base are coated in smooth black lacquer. This distinctive surface effect, achieved through repeated layering and partial polishing. Dimensions?5.25 x 4 x 2 inches.

Condition

Minor surface wear from age; lacquer retains strong luster with no cracks or restoration. Interior with light rubbing.
