This Faune Cavalier (Faun Rider) gold medallion pendant is a remarkable piece of wearable art, created from a design by Pablo Picasso and crafted in gold by Pierre Hugo in the 1980s.
After Picasso met Pierre Hugo in 1955, the artist and the goldsmith worked on a series of large serving platters, using the ancient technique of repousse. Later this series of platters started Picasso’s collection of twenty-two gold medallions (each an edition of twenty with two artist’s proofs).
The pendant showcases Picasso's iconic style, depicting a faun—a mythical creature he frequently explored—riding a horse. The detailed relief of the faun and horse is surrounded by Picasso’s engraved signature and symbols. The pendant’s organic, slightly irregular shape enhances its artisanal feel. This work is number 1 from the edition of 20.
The pendant comes with the original wooden box and a certificate of authenticity.
