RARE ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, C.850-1050 AD

Description

Classic heart form. Just under 5/8" height plus the suspension loop. Made by the open face mold technique 1000 years ago! Central high domed heart in its fully evolved form with cusped top and raised border continuing to the field as scrolls forming the of a trefoil, a favorite Viking motif. The bottom element encloses a chevron or arrowhead. That feature evidently had spiritual significance, now lost. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored on a gilt Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
