Description
Gilt bronze, size 10 ½-10 ¾. 4.0mm width at the bottom expanding to shield shape on top and pierced with bands of circular holes, a well known Viking motif. The pierced arrangement is symmetrical with remnants of an enclosing border and a single punch or indent to one side. That feature is undoubtedly of mystical significance, now lost. Probably that the arrangement had supernatural meaning, and the piercings represent celestial bodies which, for Vikings, were gods. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
