RARE ANCIENT VIKING HEART PENDANT NECKLACE, C.850-1050 AD

Description

Classic heart form. Slightly over 3/4" (0.77”) height plus the suspension loop. Made by the lost wax process. Broad border terminating in foliate elements within the field flanking a dot and leaf form. The aggregate comprising a trefoil, a favorite Viking form. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. Surface wore from use and burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored on an 18” gilt Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
