Description

Large American primitive pine bench or settle, featuring a long plank seat with turned legs and stretcher base, spindle back with shaped crest rail, and gently curved arms terminating in scroll-form handholds. The back is supported by upright stiles with a continuous rail and evenly spaced spindles, giving the piece a classic country tavern or farmhouse appearance. The overall construction and form suggest utilitarian New England or Mid-Atlantic craftsmanship, likely produced for communal seating in a kitchen, entry hall, or public meeting space. Warm aged surface with desirable patina throughout. 34 in H, 71 1/2 in W, 21 in D.
