Description
Jean Lurcat (1892-1966) studied at the École de Nancy under Victor Prouvé, the father of Jean Prouvé. In 1912 Lurcat moved to Paris where he studied at the Académie Colarossi to specialize in painting and printing techniques.
In 1917 he realized his first tapestries, which were executed in embroidery. Fascinated by the medium, Lurcat sought ways to produce tapestries in other techniques. In 1933 his first woven tapestry was manufactured in Aubusson. Deeply impressed by the huge 14th century ‘Apocalyps’ tapestry of Angers, Lurcat further developed his production techniques after 1937. By making designs on board and numbering the patches he enabled limited batch production. Lurcat’s style is influenced by both Symbolism and Surrealism.
Size 67 x 43 including border, back with lining , good antique condition , variation with a light cream backgroung signed on the front .Possibility to mount the tapestry on a wood frame .
